  1. Please describe any experience with disability you have had in your life or career.

I have hidden disability. Complete loss of hearing in right ear and almost total loss of sight in right ear.

  2. How will you incorporate people with disabilities into your campaign?

Anyone who wishes to work with my campaign, may carry petitions and if necessary distribute literature. They may also help with get out the vote on Primary Day and Election Day.

  3. If you are in private practice, is your office accessible to people with disabilities? If not, what have you done to ensure access?

    Not Applicable

  4. Is the courthouse in which you work accessible to people with all kinds of disabilities? If not, what have you done to ensure access?

The courthouse I am in is accessible to everyone including those who are wheelchair bound.

  5. Has a person with a disability appeared before your court as a juror or litigant? If so, please indicate what, if any, challenges arose? And how were they handled?

I have had litigants, who were in wheelchairs, appear before me, as well as many people who use canes and other devices. I have sometimes come off the bench and gone to them where they could not manipulate their chairs or bodies to approach the bench. People have been permitted to testify from the most comfortable place for them rather than have to get up and get into the chair that is in the witness box which has steps leading to it.

  6. Do you believe that person who is deaf /hard of hearing or person who blind can serve as a juror? Why or why not?

Any person who claims they can follow the testimony or learn about visual evidence may serve on a jury.

  7. Are you willing to hire either on a job share or full time basis, a qualified law clerk/secretary with a disability?

Yes. In fact, the court system in Kings County has a court attorney who is blind from birth who has researched legal questions for me.

  8. How will you work within the court structure to assure the accessibility of all facilities of the courts? For example, will you participate in the Committee for People with Disabilities, relevant training opportunities?

I would participate in training programs; I also raise these issues through the courts facility program of the Brooklyn Bar Association.

Date: June 1, 2008
